A Taste of Mishawaka Tradition.

For generations, Dog N Mug has been more than just a stop for a coney dog and an ice-cold root beer. It’s been a place where stories are shared, laughter carries across the lot, and neighbors become friends. Born right here in Mishawaka, our little stand became part of the rhythm of small-town life, summer evenings, first dates, little league celebrations, and families piling in after church. What made us special wasn’t just the flavor of our signature sauce or the sweetness of a frosty mug, it was the feeling. The feeling that you belonged. Today, that same spirit lives on as we carry forward the tradition, serving up the tastes you remember and creating new memories for the next generation.

Dog N Mug was founded in 1970 as a local root beer stand and coney dog restaurant in Mishawaka, Indiana. Its name, “Dog N Mug,” refers to its signature coney “dog” and root beer “mug.”

Throughout the 1970s into the 1990s, Dog N Mug operated as a classic American drive-in, serving the surrounding community with its well-known coney dog sauce and cold root beer. It became a neighborhood staple, especially during the summer months, and was widely remembered by local residents.

At some point after its peak as a drive-in restaurant, the original Dog N Mug location ceased daily operations. The building remained notable in local memory and was referenced in nostalgic photo projects and community art reflecting on Mishawaka business history.

Today, Dog N Mug is under new ownership. The original coney sauce recipe remains the same, preserving the flavor that longtime customers remember. While the business no longer operates as a traditional drive-in stand, plans are underway to reopen as a mobile food trailer. The goal is to continue serving the same classic menu items while bringing Dog N Mug back to local events and community gatherings in and around Mishawaka.
